Well

Angela Somerset

16 Mar to 13 Apr 2002

March 16-April 13, 2002

Opening Reception on Friday, March 8th at 8 pm

Access is pleased to present Well, a site-specific installation by Angela Somerset that explores that different ways in which we inhabit space, individually and collectively. Well combines video projection and sound to create a transitory environment of encounters or interactions. A video projection 'Wish', installed in the window of the gallery facing the street, will be more or less visible to representations of arrival and departure, using familiar objects along with constructed and real-space landscapes. The audio pieces-derived from recordings sourced from a range of water interactions: water flowing through objects such as radiators and water wheels, and objects containing water like a rain barrel or a swimming pool,...along with found sources of water recordings such as an artesian well or a stream, play throughout the gallery, surfacing and converging at seemingly random intervals.

Angela Somerset received a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, NS in 1993. She currently resides in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The artist's recent projects include In Between: The Sound of Music, Video Pool compilation Audio Cd, well, in one place / swell out to sea (the later in collaboration with Tom Elliot), audio recordings included; Send and Receive: A Festival of Sound, presented by Video pool Inc.
