Access Gallery is a not-for-profit artist-run centre dedicated to supporting the practices of emergent cultural practitioners and to promoting risk-taking and innovation in the gallery space and beyond. In addition to developing several exhibitions a year, the Gallery also hosts guest curators and presents educational and professional development opportunities in the form of workshops, artist talks and other outreach programming. The Gallery strives to engage with various publics to create discourse through collaborations with other local and provincial organizations to expand audiences and enhance community.
The Executive Committee of Access Gallery is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to fill various positions on its board of directors. Being a member of the board requires commitment, leadership, decision-making, and integrity. It is also a very rewarding experience that allows one to gain new insights and develop new skills that will aid in future endeavours. Board meetings are held on a regular basis, and members are expected to volunteer additional time sitting on committees, organizing and realizing one major fundraiser per year, as well as attending Gallery events. Directors may not receive financial compensation or apply for solo exhibitions while serving on the board, and will be expected to hold their positions for two years.
Ideal candidates will be trained professionals with fundraising and/or previous board experience, who possess a strong interest in contemporary arts practices. Professional training in the arts is not required. Candidates must also be community-minded and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
