Access Gallery is delighted to host the Vancouver launch of Breathless Days, a new book co-edited by acclaimed Vancouver-based art historians Serge Guilbaut and John O’Brian. Taking 1959-1960 as a pivotal cultural and political moment, Breathless Days replaces prevailing national narratives with a set of heterogeneous studies that bring Western Europe and the Americas together. The book reads kaleidoscopically, its pages flickering with the myriad events that in two years changed entire aesthetic and political horizons. The book, as its reviewers have remarked, will leave readers à bout de souffle.
