A CRASH COURSE IN MEDIA RELATIONS, Faciliator: Allison Markin, Saturday March 10, 2007, 1-4 pm at Access Gallery, $ 25 for Access members/ $40 for non-members

The Workshop

Does the though of talking to a reporter make you squirm? Are you afraid of "The Media"? Don't be! In this interactive presentation, participants will learn the basic principles of media relations, how the media works, what makes a  great news story, and what makes a great feature story. Participants will also go through some steps to prepare press releases and press kits, and will write headlines, leads and create the "frame" of a good story. Finally, the group will do a bit of role-playing to get participants comfortable answering and asking questions. Participants will walk away from this seminar with the beginnings of a news release and some ideas on how, and where, to pitch it.
