A magnificent steamer rising from a wheatfield, thousands of kilometres from the nearest tidewater. An arctic expedition. Shipping containers pitched from their vessels and lost at sea. An ominous message scrawled on a piece of debris and washed ashore but found too late. These disparate, haunting, fantastical fragments form the basis of Dawn Johnston's solo exhibition ALL LOST, on view at Access Gallery from May 24 to July 20, 2013.
Join Director/Curator Kimberly Phillips as she speaks with Dawn about her whimsical, research-based practice and the ideas that informed ALL LOST. A limited edition publication--including additional images and a text by Vancouver-based writer Zuzanna Juskiewicz--will be launched at the event, which is free and open to all.
Immediately following the talk, wander across the street and join us at East of Main for our Summer Members Dinner, a delectable tapas-style feast where we'll fete Dawn's installation, the work of outgoing Director/Curator Shaun Dacey, and toast the future with new Director/Curator Kimberly Phillips.
Tickets, which can be purchased through our website or by calling 604-689-2997, will go towards supporting exciting new emergent artists and practices.
