VIRTUAL ARTIST TALK : Jumanah Bawazir / Forensic Architecture

Wed 22 Oct 2025 12PM

Jumanah Bawazir is an Advanced Researcher at Forensic Architecture (FA), and multidisciplinary designer in her own practice. She trained as an architect at the Architectural Association in London. Her work at FA focuses on the overlay of open source research and digital modelling to bring forth civil investigations that confront state narratives. Her contributions have supported cases presented before international courts and human rights bodies.

Her own research embraces the space between testimony and architecture, poetry and cartographies of power, foregrounding the interscalar resistance that emerges from forced displacement and enclosure. She has previously taught at the Architectural Association, worked in architectural practices, and has exhibited her work at the Qattan Foundation in Ramallah, as well as at the 2023 Sharjah Biennial among other exhibitions including projects developed at FA.

Forensic Architecture (FA) is a research agency based at Goldsmiths, University of London, investigating human rights violations committed by states, police, militaries, and corporations. FA works in partnership with institutions across civil society—grassroots activists, legal teams, international NGOs, and media organisations—to carry out investigations with and on behalf of communities and individuals affected by conflict, police brutality, border regimes and environmental violence. FA’s investigations employ pioneering techniques in spatial and architectural analysis, open source investigation, digital modelling, and situated interviewing. Findings have been presented in international courtrooms, parliamentary inquiries, citizen’s tribunals, exhibitions at leading cultural institutions, and across international media.
