Access Gallery is putting together a standalone publication, PARCEL, which seeks to better understand its own positioning as a centre of cultural production and dissemination at the nexus of multiple stories/histories, neighbourhoods, and waterways. This location is steeped in stories of convergence and displacement, colonial impositions, gentrification, and importantly, ongoing acts of resistance, joy, and care.
What does it mean to invite and host art within the area where Access resides? Access invites reflective daydreams of (critical) possibility. How can we embody multiple truths and histories, moving to facilitate, prompt, and superimpose generative futures, cultivating connection and collaboration with land and each other?
We are accepting a limited number of writing (unpublished preferred) and visual art, and are open to other mediums (sound, for example). Applications from artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, racialized, Queer/LGBTQIA2S+, disabled, and neurodivergent will be welcomed. We will be prioritizing those with lived experience and/or histories within the geographic area around Chinatown.
Work which is experimental or providing underplatformed perspectives is welcomed and encouraged. We are accepting pitches until Friday, April 21, 2023.
Selected works will be paid according to the following rates:
$1/word for texts (ideally under 1,500 words)
$100/page for poetry
visual art according to CARFAC rates
If these submission guidelines are a barrier and you’d prefer to submit in a format that is more accessible to you, please contact Publications Assistant, Meera Eragoda, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
