The publication Hadden Park Map Exchange accompanies the exhibition Field Studies: Exercises in a Living Landscape, and is a collection of field notes made by participants in the Hadden Park Map Exchange between March and December of 2014. In idiosyncratic pairs made up of a 'Guide' and a 'Recorder,' participants navigated a designated zone at the north end of Vancouver's Kitsilano Beach, noting impressions, observations, speculative narratives and provocations. The publication also includes a short text written by Rebecca Bayer and Laura Kozak On the Observation of Place.
Rebecca Bayer is a Vancouver-based artist and architectural designer. Her projects examine relationships between people, materials, and atmospheric surroundings to promote the exchange of ideas and the sharing of experience. Bayer pursues these themes through public art projects, urban interventions, community collaborations, as well as public space research and teaching.
Laura Kozak is a Vancouver-based designer and cartographer. Through an independent practice that spans graphic design, cartography, architecture, and urban design, she has contributed to projects for 221A Artist Run Centre, AICAD, ASIR Studio, Emily Carr University of Art and Design, CityStudio, the Helen Pitt, and Spacing Vancouver. A core interest in collaborative design of the urban environment informs her research and teaching practice. Kozak holds a Masters of Advanced Studies in Architecture from UBC and a BFA from Emily Carr.
